Artificial intelligence changes the way work is organized, how the public sphere is articulated, and who holds economic and political power. Those who shape the development of AI will shape the society of the future. At the moment, this is largely dictated by the logics of a handful of major platform corporations: efficiency, profit, and power. Human beings? A factor susceptible to errors. Human work? A phenomenon that must be overcome.

From the perspectives of social, industrial, and media policy, there are good reasons to act quickly now and shape a different future – with AI applications that are committed to a fairer and more just society; a digital infrastructure that ensures value creation in Europe; and algorithms that are guided by the values-based principles of a democratic society instead of the profit motives of a few.
