Gender Justice in the Platform Economy | LABOR.A® 2025

zuletzt aktualisiert: 13. January 2026

From the conference guide of LABOR.A® 2025:

Platformisation has not opened up empowering flexi-work opportunities that address traditional constraints to women’s effective participation in the economy. In fact, digital labour platforms have reinforced the gendered, classed and racialised hierarchies of labour across the globe.

Building on empirical evidence from FES and IT for Change's multi-country study of women workers' experiences on digital labor platforms in Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America and EU, this session looks at the challenges that women workers in both the Global South and the Global North face in platform work. We will explore how unions can respond to these challenges and what policy measures are needed to address gendered forms of labour exploitation, considering the transnational character of platform work.

Speakers: Nandini Chami (IT for Change), Uma Rani Amara, Charlotte Schlüter (German Trade Union Confederation)

Moderation: Katia Schnellecke (Friedrich Ebert Foundation)

Partners: IT for Change, Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation
